In response to the news about deporting Christians living in Mosul, Iraq, the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) issued the following statement:

Ramadan 24, 1435

July 22, 2014

IUMS considers deportation of Christians from some Iraqi governorates a violation of Islamic Shari`ah, not to mention the negative image such deportation entails about Islam and the Muslims.

IUMS demands those responsible for such forcible deportation to stop it, to allow Christians to return to their homes, and to present a positive image about the upright religion of Islam.

IUMS also calls on people all over the world not to target Muslims since this stirs grudge in the hearts of everyone and kindles fruitless struggles.

All praises are due to Almighty Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, his family, Companions and those who follow him.

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) denounces forcible deportation of the Christian fellows in Iraq from their houses, cities and governorates. Such actions violate Islamic Shari`ah and Islamic conscience, and leave only a negative image about Islam and the Muslims. It also contradicts the facts of Islam, which has embraced mankind through the principles of justice and charity, and the values of kindness and tolerance indicated by Almighty Allah's (Exalted is He) saying,

{Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice.} (Al-Mumtahanah 60: Cool

Through their compliance with these principles, the Muslims have offered wonderful models for dealing with non-Muslims at the most critical times, which attracted thousands of non-Muslims to embrace Islam and to integrate into the Muslim communities and coexist with the Muslims in the same country.

The IUMS also calls the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which arbitrarily imposed itself on the Muslims through declaring the rise of the alleged caliphate, to allow fellow Christians in Mosul to return to their homes. For, they are indigenous citizens of Iraq and are not foreigners.

It is a must to work towards quell sedition, line up ranks, and solve the problems of the aged-old country of Iraq, instead of plunging it into issues that further complicate the current scene and that serve nothing but the enemies' conspiracies that aim to break up not only Iraq but the entire Arab and Muslim nation as well.

We wished that the so-called ISIL, if they really live up to the current age, to join the IUSM in calling the whole world to reconsider the way they deal with the Muslims in several regions, especially in Palestine, given the afflictions of evacuation, displacement, destruction and massacres which the Palestinians suffer. Added to the Palestinian sufferings are the conspiracies brewed against the Muslims in many other countries, such as Sri Lanka, India, Central Africa, etc. All this provokes struggle on factional and sectarian grounds, and plunges the world into an endless whirlpool of entirely destructive conflict.

The IUMS also invites the free world - if it is still alive and can listen to the call - to stand by the aggrieved and the persecuted, whose rights have been divested. For, administering justice and restoring rights to their due owners would put an end to struggles, conflicts and wars, and would end all forms of extremism in all sides.

Indeed, stirring up sedition is a manifest evil, and all people should cooperate in detecting its causes, and work towards elimination of it and extinguishing its fire.

May Almighty Allah safeguard Iraq and all Arab and Muslim countries against internal fighting, the manifest and the hidden thereof.

{And Allah is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know} (Yusuf 12:21)
