Arabic and Islamic Phrases
1. Baraka Allahu lakuma wa baraka alaikuma wa jama'a bainakuma fi khair
Context:
This is said as a congratulation in engagements and weddings.
Baraka Allahu lak-uma
May bless Allah [it] for you (May Allah bless it (the marriage) for
you.
wa barak-a alaik-uma
and may bless He upon you both (May Allah bless you both)
wa jama'a bainak-uma fi khair
and may join He between-you in (a) good (relationship)

2. Al Baqaa' li-llah
Inna li-llahi wa inna ilai-hi raje'oon
ِAl Baqaa' li-llah = Immortality/Permanence is only Allah's
Inna li-llahi
Surely we belong to Allah
wa inna ilai-hi raje'oon
and surely we to Him return (we) (And surely to him we return)
Context:
* This is what is said when one hears about the death of someone or loses a loved one. One should immediately remember to say this. This is because Allahs says,
[2:155]
Surely We will try you with something of fear and hunger, and diminution of goods and lives; yet give good tidings to the patient;
[2:156]
those who, when they are struck by an affliction, say, 'Surely we belong to God, and to Him we will return'.
[2:157]
Upon those rest blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those - they are the truly guided.
* It is also the Islamic phrase of condoling anyone who lost somebody.
3. Context:
Sneezing: when someone sneezes, He/she themselves should say:
"Al hamdu lillah" = Thanks to Allah
People around should say to him/her:
Yarhamu-ka Allah = May Allah forgive you.
The sneezer should then respond:
Yaghfiru la-na wa la-kum Allah
May forgive to us and to you Allah
4. Baraka Allahu feek
Context:
When you want to tell someone "May Allah{SWT} bless you".
a. Baraka Allahu fee-ka (for one male)
May bless Allah{SWT} (literally) in you
b. Baraka Allahu fee-ki (for one female)
c. Baraka Allahu fee-kuma (for 2 Males or females)
d. Baraka Allahu fee-kum (for 3 males or
more)
e. Baraka Allahu fee-kunna (for 3 females or
more)
5. Qadara Allahu wa ma shaa fa'al.
Willed Allah and what [He] wanted [He] did.
Context:
This is usually said when you were planing for something and then something else happens or something you do like happens or you planned was forestalled.
6. Ma shaa Allah! La quwata illa Billah
What willed Allah! No strength except with Allah
Context:
When you see somthing nice or beautiful, something you admire, something better than what you have, or something that you wish to have . Except of envying the person, you say this. It is based on ayah 39 in sura 18.
7. Tawakaltu 'ala Allah
Rely I on Allah (i.e. I rely on /put my trust in) Allah
For more than one person:
Tawakalna ' ala Allah (i.e. we rely on /put our trust in) Allah
If you address others:
Tawakal ala Allah (When you address a single male)
Tawakali ala Allah (When you address a single female)
Tawakala ala Allah (When you address two persons)
Tawakalu ala Allah (When you address more than two
persons:males ormixed group)
Tawakalna ala Allah (When you address more than two
females)
Context:
This is said when one is about to start doing something or is planning for something or when you are about to start a mission, journey, etc. One starts with "Bismillahi Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim", then the above phrase.
