Anas ibn Malik reported:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Envy consumes good deeds just as the fire consumes wood. Charity extinguishes sinful deeds just as water extinguishes the fire. Prayer is the light of the believer, and fasting is his shield from the Hellfire."
